Individual differences in genetic foundations coupled with environmental variability and differences in reaction ranges lead to many kinds of variability in developmental outcomes. Humans manifest a vast array of variability across many dimensions of noticeable characteristics across all domains. Much of the focus of human development deals with how to describe and explain individual differences in development. Great need to do this with respect and appreciation of differences while neither offending others nor denying personal values. Ability to value and relate to individuals with different abilities, values, social addresses, aspirations/goals. Professionally communicate about unique characteristics and provide services/interventions that are appropriate for characteristics of each individual. Goodness of fit between treatment and characteristics. Understand who you are and who you are not. Understand the value of diverse perspectives and experiences. The more exposure to diversity, the greater the appreciation of the complexity of human development. We all have to get out more .
