Recently, studies concentrate on homogamy in terms of personality characteristics. Opposites attract - not true for marriage. Endogamous in ethnicity - usually also in education and socioeconomic status. Physical appearance - people become involved with those who are similar in physical attractiveness. More important for men (7. 7 vs 6. 8 out of 10) Marital status - people divorced choose divorced etc. Mental health - people with disorders choose others with disorders. Mating gradient: tendency for husbands to be more advanced with regards to age, education, and occupational success. Converse - men at bottom have trouble finding wife. Heterogeneous groups encourage intermarriage - still people seek to keep same status.
