They abstain from all food and drink from sunrise to sunset. Muslims are expected to go on pilgrimage to mecca at least once in their lifetime, if they have the means to do so. About 15% of the world"s muslims are shi"ite. Became the state religion in iran in the 16th century. Believe that only descendants of muhammad have the authority to rule an islamic state rule an islamic state.
