What does the word family symbolize: wholesomeness, unity. Family symbolism: symbol for decency, disney, family movies, pro-family candidates, these are things that are strictly american. What is implied by the traditional concept of family: images of married couples, love, permanence, children, sexual exclusivity (monogamy, home makers, intergenerational continuity. Census definitions: family: 2 or more people related by blood, marriage or adoption, household: all persons who occupy a dwelling such as a house. Macro influences: economics, technology, popular culture, social movements (ex. Family research methods: quantitative, numerical analyses of people"s responses or specific characteristics, qualitative, non-numerical data. Research methods: social scientists generally use six major research methods, surveys, clinical research, field research, secondary analysis, experiments, evaluation research.
