What is the term for a reaction that involves water breaking molecules into smaller fragments. Most chemical reactions require energy to activate reactants. Min energy required to activate reactants and allow reaction to proceed. Inside the body, cells use special proteins called enzymes. Enzymes: specialized protein that helps move reactions along. Bind to a substrate and hold on that it is more likely it will bump into what is needed for a reaction. Accelerate chemical reaction without being permanently changed or consumed. No net change in concentration of reactants and products. Forward and backward reactions occurring at the same rate. Series of complex reactions occurring in the body. Reactions may absorb or release energy on completion. Common in the body and help to maintain body temp. More energy is required to begin than is released. Makes up about of total body weight. Little friction between water molecules, so thin layer of water reduces friction within joints and in body cavities.
