Document Summary

Sphenoid - very complicated; crosses the entire skull to the opposite side. Ethmoid - part of this continues as the skull base anteriorly and another part is the perpendicular plate that helps to form the nasal septum; separates nasal and cranial cavity. Nasal (2) - boney bridge of your nose. Palatine (2) - contributes to the hard palate and a tiny little part in the orbit. C1 - atlas; has a flat articular process and facet because it needs to hold the skull; has no spinous process or vertebral body; large foramen; allows us to nod forward/backward. Have 7 true ribs - costal cartilage connects ribs to sternum - each true rib has its own costal cartilage that connects it to the sternum. False ribs - have the same costal cartilage. Floating ribs - have no connection to the sternum. Costal cartilage is hyaline - stiff for protection with some flexibility for inflation and deflation during inhalation and expiration.
