KAAP220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Acetabular Labrum, Glenoid Labrum, Jelly Doughnut
Document Summary
Lecture 13: chapter 8 - joints - continued, vertebral column, 3 types of joints. Syndesmoses of vertebral column - fibrous joints, including vertebral ligaments; in between vertebrae themselves. Vertebral synovial joints - between body processes; wherever we have articular facets: vertebral articulations, intervertebral disc components. Anulus fibrosus - tough outer ring of fibrocartilage; collagen fibers attach to adjacent vertebrae; donut of the jelly donut. Nucleus pulposus - soft, elastic, gelatinous core; gives disc resilience and shock absorption ability; jelly of the jelly donut. Osteopenia (lacking) - caused by loss of calcium within the bones; reduces bone mass; starting very early in life; more common and severe in women; can lead to osteoporosis. Osteoporosis (porous) - have osteopenia and the bone loss that has occurred has become so advanced that it starts to affect normal bone functioning. Extends from edge of acetabulum to just distal to the neck of femur. Quadriceps tendon - continues as patellar ligament to anterior tibial surface.
