NTDT421 Lecture 5: lecture 5 9-13
Document Summary
Do 24 hour recall at initial visit. *food frequency questionnaires typically used for research; send to nutrient database to get food group intake and nutrients. Food frequency built to work with large sample sizes. May not remember or remember to record what you eat. Nutrient composition tables may not be great (some nutrients the govt does not have data on) Which method you use depends on setting, population size, nutrient of interest, stats on the population (read, write, ability to remember), what resources you have. Meal based; what people habitually eat for each meal. Retrospective (have to think back in time) All foods and beverages; have to record quantity. Can do it in person or over telephone (research setting) Quick list of whole day (don"t interrupt train of thought) Info about the meal, time, place, type of food. Only group good at estimating is chefs. Need portion size guide for research/outpatient setting.
