Steps in ethically development to then extend rights to all: individual to individual. Decalog- 10 commandments as an example of person to person ethics laws or beliefs of what people should do for each other. Don"t kill people, honor your parents, don"t steal, etc. That came to be at some point, kind of was there but not totally in the odyssey: individual and society. Nothing but humans were considered before this. Ex. animal rights, moral and legal structure even though they are not covered at all in the first 2 steps. Nothing else that we rely on is really included. Challenge: to find human beings in this land community- land is in the same place as the slave girls recognition that we are part of this community, all of these things interacting in a certain way. The land is the way in which all of this hangs together: subject matter of ecology.
