They emerge because of our freedom to speak and associate with others. We naturally want to form organizations to advance collective interests. A system in which all interest groups organize and compete freely and no one group is able to dominate. Competition among organized interest will produce balance and moderation. Interest groups represent some people and not others. Those that are no represented will form a competing group. Interest group power increases as they represent more people. Each group has an incentive to be inclusive and get more members. Compromises and moderation are necessary to be inclusive. Represent workers in particular industries or membership in broader union. Represent lower levels of government and research facilities. Pluralism assumes that competition within these interest group categories and between them should balance itself out.
