PSYC209 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Type I And Type Ii Errors, Null Hypothesis, Technology In Revelation Space
Document Summary
Alpha: probability of making a type 1 error : rejecting null when true (when there is an effect) Probability of obtaining that value or one more extreme given that the null is centered around 100. Given that the null really is true or given that the null really is false. If null really is true, ignore bottom line. If null is true, we either made correct decision to retain the null bc null is true. Or made type 1 error and rejected when we shouldn"t have. If the null hypothesis really is false, then we ignore top row and only look at bottom rwo. We either made a correct decision to reject the null (power) , or we made a type ii error.
