We used to be so concerned about posture not because of a scientific reason, but because it was seen as a health fad. The posture movement was seen in hygeia- a magazine started by the american. The articles were written in general language so that non-science people could easily understand. Some writers said bas posture was also the result of a cultural crisis: the post world. War 1 loss of traditio(cid:374)al (cid:448)alues a(cid:373)o(cid:374)g a(cid:373)eri(cid:272)a"s youth. They (cid:449)ere (cid:374)o lo(cid:374)ger see(cid:374) as idols by our young. The flapper expressed her disdain for the old values by adopting the so-called (cid:862)de(cid:271)uta(cid:374)te slou(cid:272)h(cid:863). Bad posture was a symbol of cultural decline. Good posture represented that all was upstanding and noble; bad posture all that was craven and suspect. Many other works, not just hygeia, wrote about posture. This means that it was becoming a popular subject. Things like tuberculosis and rickets were on the decline at this time, too.
