Many victims of ipv by officers do not call their law enforcement because they fear case will be handled by officers who side with their colleague and will not investigate. Ipv by police connected to job and individuals who are attracted to job: the type of work policing is about is about power and control and may attract those who are drawn to violence. Significant stressors: continuous exposure to trauma and tragedy experienced by victims, high risk of physical danger in police work. Certain personality styles or characteristics of police can lead to ipv: rank high in moralistic, rigid, and authoritarian personalities, also often overly protective and restrict their spouses and children, leads to isolation. Efforts to provide counseling and training programs for officers: agencies need to define expectations and have better screening and background investigations, must establish a zero tolerance for ipv.
