Genetics- the science of biological heredity and variation. (offspring resembles parents because they inherit parent genes: charles darwin: developed the theory of natural selection (survival of the fittest) Alfred wallace: also helped with the finding of natural selection: gregor mendel: father of modern genetics studied the inheritance of various traits in pea plants. Each cell contains a set of pair factors. Experiments that lead to the finding of dna as genetic material: fred grifith experiment (type s and r bacteria injected into mice). Mouse dies when injected with type s bacteria but not type r bacteria. Mouse also lives when injected with heat killed type s bacteria. Lastly, mouse does die when heat killed s and living r bacteria is mixed and injected. Type s needs active live s colonies to replicate. *conclusion: dead s cells can make the living r cells pathogenic.
