The idea of mccarthyism peaked during this time period, which was the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper evidence. The documents reveals how people were both submissive and on edge with the issue of communism. In document 24. 6 ronald regan is giving his testimony before the huac in regards to the hollywood investigations of alleged communist. He seems to have a leisure approach to the situation as if they have taken the accusations into consideration and moved on. Reagan does not dwell on the idea of communist taking over. In contrast, document 24. 7 reveals the questioning of john howard lawson a chairman of the screen writers guild who was not as compliant with the questioning as reagan.
