Animal health teams consist of: managers, employees, nutritionists, veterinarians, contractors. Who is in the best position to recognize unhealthy animals: the person that sees that animal the most. Usually everyday: veterinarians could possibly see signs of illness but not as well as someone who sees the animal constantly, (cid:862)a(cid:374) ou(cid:374)(cid:272)e of pre(cid:448)e(cid:374)tio(cid:374) is (cid:449)orth a pou(cid:374)d of (cid:272)ure(cid:863) A day in the life of a veterinarian. Early morning starts, usually before 5:00 am: driving out to different farms to work with livestock. Main duties of a veterinarian: nutrition, reproduction, herd health, welfare, emergencies. Reproduction: pregnancy confirmation, diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders. Ex) ketosis: estrus synchronization programs and timed ai. Nutrition: evaluation of feedstuffs, pasture, and ration. Makes sure animals get the nutrients needed for healthy function: monitoring of water quality, evaluation of milk and milk replacer. Welfare: facilities the animals are kept in, heat abatement, body condition score, lameness. Herd health: clinical evaluation of sick animals.
