Involves three major products: sociocultural information, policy, a plan of action or invention. Academic anthropology had its beginnings in the early 20th century: done by kroeber, malinowski, and boas. Application was a central concern of early anthropology in great britain and in the u. s: colonialism in great britain, native american policy in the u. s. During wwii, and again during the vietnam war applied and practicing anthropology experienced growth periods: government wanted to hire anthropologists to know about the cultures we were at war with. Modern anthropologists are likely to adopt a local, grassroots perspective in approaching a problem: gaining insight from the locals and going from there.
