ANT 3520 Lecture 12: November 20, Genocide and War Crimes
Document Summary
Victims of human rights abuses: the right to life and freedom, free from fear of persecution. Being killed for the way you think: the right to one"s heritage and history, the right to know the truth and reconcile a conflict within the bounds of one"s culture. Some cultures don"t necessarily want people to hang for their crimes (as we do in the us); they want an apology and to know the truth and motivation. Goals for forensic investigation of human rights abuses: collect and document evidence for crimes, report finding to tribunals and family organizations, find, identify, repatriate victims to their families.
