Document Summary

Bsc2011 - integrated principles of biology 2 - lecture 29: biomes part 2 and populations. Humans affect ecological systems on a global scale. Anthropocene : new geological period, age of humans . Anthropogenic biomes include dense settlements, villages, croplands, rangelands, forested, and wildlands. Barriers to dispersal affect the distribution of species. There are six region with distinct assemblage of species, many phylogenetically related. Many of the boundaries correspond to geographic barriers to movement. Examples: bodies of water, extreme climates, mountain ranges. The regions are nearctic, neotropical, antarctic, ethiopian, palearctic, oriental, and australasian. Southern beeches are found in south america, new zealand, australia, and some south pacific islands. Individuals of a species that interact with one another within a given area at a particular time. The ecological role of a species within a community or ecosystem is determined not only by the properties of individuals but also that species" relative abundance (population level property).
