Document Summary

All living organisms are related to one another. Single common ancestor for all living organisms(root) Phylogeny the evolutionary history of these relationships. Phylogenetic tree- a diagrammatic reconstruction of that history. Phylogenetic tree is a hypothesis, based on evidence. Consists a lineage which is a series of ancestor and descendant population. When a single lineage divides into two (speciation), it is depicted as a spilt known as a node. Each descendant population gives rise to a new lineage, which continues to evolve. A&b form a clade, a&b&c form a clade, and a&c do not form a clade. Clades are monophyletic group- they contain an ancestor and descendants of that ancestor and no other organisms. 2) analyze the data to develop a branching diagram (phylogeny) They can be heritable traits, including dna sequences, protein structures, anatomical structures, and behavior patterns. All of life is connected through its evolutionary history.
