Introduction: tell them what you are going to say. Conclusion: tell them what you said. Recipe for success: gain the audience"s attention, state your purpose or reveal the topic, state what the audience has to gain, establish credibility, preview the body of the speech. Gain the audience"s attention: the very first thing you say should gain their attention. You have about 20 seconds or less before the audience decides whether or not they are interested in what you are talking about: should be interesting, you could: Keep it short, or don"t finish it until the end. If you don"t think it is important, neither will your audience. The audience"s gain: explain how your topic is relevant to the audience, good will the perception of whether the speaker has the best. What do they have to gain from listening? interests of the audience in mind. This is good especially if the topic is controversial.
