Document Summary
Thinking about the good life part 2: the good life and the purposes of college. President machen"s speech: there are three major points to the good life in college, 1) self-discovery. Finding out who am i, where do i fit in, etc. In college you do not fully understand/know who you are yet. The good paths are those that are less traveled and winding and even though they may be longer where you end up may be worth it. Do things for your own benefit, not for others. Rousseau believes that people view themselves based on how others perceive them: 2) career. In college you have the choice to find out what you want to do with your life. Employers don"t necessarily look for certain majors, but they do look for a good variety of beneficial life skills: ex) critical thinking, analysis of problems, etc.
