We look at the cognition (the way a person thinks about someone else) and the behavior of a person towards another: social perception- the process by which we come to know and evaluate other people. Why people act the way they do. Based on rapid assessments of easily observable qualities and behaviors in others. Make assessments based on group membership, appearance, and non verbal behavior: physical appearance and accompanying stereotypes. Behavioral-confirmation process: perceiver"s expectations step 1 perceiver"s behavior toward the target step 2 target"s behavior toward the perceiver step 3 perceiver"s expectations. Attraction: we avoid others that are very different and seek those that are the most similar to ourselves, physical attractiveness. Internal- causes of events due to the factors that are internal to the person: personality, mood, thoughts.
