Similar: chemiosmosis occurs in chloroplasts and mitochondria as the main producer of atp, involve the use of the same sort of proton gradient and the protein atp synthase. Since the protons will want to diffuse back to even the concentration and the only way back is through the channel of the atp synthase. As the protons rush through this channel, they spin the atp synthase like a turbine and in lamens terms, it pushes the extra phosphate group into the adp to create atp.
