Cpu: also called processor or microprocessor, handles all of the computations of the computer, the cpu"s speed is cycles per second which is measured in hertz (hz) Alu- arithmetic logic unit- part of the cpu that does arithmetic things (addition/sub/multiplication/division), logical things- like comparisons such as comparing 2 numbers. Motherboard: a pc (printed circuit) that connects most of the hardware components together, can be thought of as a computer"s central nervous system, it connects: Ram: primary memory of desktops and laptop computers, plugs into motherboard, capacity measured in bits/bytes of storage. Power supply: provides the proper voltage and current to the motherboard and other hardware devices, laptops use lithium-ion batteries charged with an external power supply. I/o (input/output) devices: input devices send data into a computer. Inputs sound from a mic, outputs sound to speakers/headphones: video graphics card. Renders data to display on a computer"s monitor.
