Marius petipa: rechoreographed it for russian ballet, st. petersburg ourished as a cultural center, 1738 st. petersburg ballet school. Marius petipa- premier danseur and later ballet master for life: swan lake, sleeping beauty, nutcracker, invented geometric groupings, classical dance and character dance. Lev ivanov contributing lakeside scenes for swan lake: dancing provided men and women were equal to military personnel, diversmonte= at the end of the ballet that is irrelevant to the ballet. Puss and boots and little red riding hood at the end of sleeping beauty: grand pas de deux. Climax of the entire ballet with most important 2 ballerinas. Like a menu: entr e (introduces characters, adagio (love duet of slow movement, solo variations, coda (dancers come back together and they compete) Effective display of contrasting types of movement: pas de quatre. Romantic ballet danced by 4 leading ballerinas.
