Document Summary

Migration is the process wherein organisms move from one place to another, either permanently or temporarily. In this case, we are referring to humans changing residence or location, usually for an extended time or permanently. This can be an individual, a family, or other group (tribe, clan, colony, etc. ). The migration may be long, outside the community/area of origin, or short, across town. Immigration is a movement/migration to a location, such as someone moving to the us to live. Emigration is a movement/migration from a location, such as someone moving from the us to live elsewhere. * immigration & emigration can be an internal or an external migration/movement, depending on the scale (county, state, country). Usually viewed at the country scale, but not exclusively. External migration usually refers to a movement from one country to another such as from. * migration may be characterized by both the direction and distance involved.
