GEOG 1101 Lecture 16: Study Notes at UGA
Document Summary
Political geography involves the study of political processes and the ways in which political processes are affected by spatial structures. It is concerned with the inter-relationships between people, state, and territory. * the study of political geography often adopts a three-scale structure with the study of the state at the center, the study of international relations or geopolitics above it, and the study of localities below it. Sovereignty is the principle, which holds that final authority over social, economic, & political matters within a state (country) should rest with the legitimate ruler(s) of the state. * this authority is recognized by other states and usually codified bylaws. It is understood that there should be no outside interference, from other states or groups, without permission of the affected state. State (commonly known as a country) is a politically organized territory that is administered by a sovereign government & is recognized by a significant portion of the international community.
