Fans behaving badly: there are three major factors that contribute to negative fan behavior. While each of these factors result in a stand-alone issue, they are very often interconnected: disrupting play, throwing objects, mocking / heckling, field invasion, racism. In the stadium: on social media, violence, rioting, hooliganism, what is the cause of negative behavior, a complex mix of sociological and psychological theories and circumstances are used to try and explain causes of fan violence. It usually manifests in the forms of riots following major wins or losses. While there exists no one reason, it is argued that it is a combination of the following three elements: popularity of different sports in north america, highest proportion of fan violence worldwide is related to soccer.
