Charged by government and then sued by victim: intentional vs. unintentional torts. Unintentional- didn"t mean to do anything to you but legally responsible. Strict liability- when companies make a product that injure people. Intending to do something that hurts somebody else. (different from intending to hurt someone). Push your friend jokingly and he breaks his arm- you intended to push your friend so guilty of intentional tort. The desire to bring about certain results: assault and battery. Assault: i do something that causes you to believe that you are about to be injured, placing of another in immediate apprehension for his physical safety. Battery- unauthorized, unjustified, or unwarranted physical contact or injury. Store manager who threatens to hit with a wrench is guilty of assault, if he actually hits someone it"s battery: intentional infliction of emotional distress.
