The stereotype that women are often sensitive, weaker, illogical, ect all may affect the
recruiters perspective when they are trying to improve the police department (Muftic & Collins,
2014, p.390). We should rely more on the positive statistical values that women are able to
produce, than the assumption that they are incapable of the completing work as well as the men
do.
When establishing what it feels like to properly demonstrate what an officer does in their
occupation, they should effectively communicate the basic requirements for employment
especially to those who are interested (White & Escobar, 2008, p.121). Transparency seems to be
the key point in the recruitment process, be it good or bad. The reason for this is due to the fact
that people who are not qualified for a particular job within the police force will often apply and
will thus be declined leading to disappointment, and ultimately, a waste of time and productivity.
Being upfront and honest in almost all cases help to streamline any process, reduce potential time
and resource loss, and sets clear guidelines By having set guidelines and procedures, potential
candidates and applicants come in knowing what to expect and saves time for those who
experiences a change of heart after further information is provided by the police force in terms of
the nature of the police officer’s work, daily tasks and duties of police officers, and other
essential information necessary in making a logically sound decision in terms of one’s
employment and specialization of skill (Blakemore, 2010, p.30).
Although being a police officer may be “exciting or dangerous”, realistically it is very
uncommon for police officers to be involved in adrenaline-pumping scenes and footages from
police action movies and soap operas. This ties in with the notion regarding transparency in
terms of job expectation and duties, as well as increasing the applicant pool. More often than not,
those with serious inquiries and interest in the police officer profession would most likely
