Behavior includes overt behavior, thoughts, feelings, intentions, perceptions, sensations, and brain activity. Ultimately, all of these topics are studied through actions that can be observed and measured. Inner feeling = liking (but you can"t see it so you look for outer signs) Possible outer manifestations: frequent eye contact, friendly, nervous when near, asks friends about you, phone calls, laughs at your jokes. Any one of these things alone could have multiple interpretations; it doesn"t mean someone likes you by itself. When researchers take a scientific approach to psychology, they perform a series of experiments using a variety of techniques; only then do they begin to have confidence in their conclusions. There"s no real proof, just more and more confidence are more studies occur. Speculation about human nature at least as far back as the ancient. The original goal was to create a science similar to chemistry but dealing with mental content.
