We don"t always know why we do what we do, and we can"t always control our behavior. I know what i"m feeling, but i don"t always know the reason. We don"t know what"s going on in the baby"s mind. We look at the baby"s behavior and make plausible guesses based on social theories. I can easily tell who is more attractive, but it"s a lot harder to come up with why. Theory that we like the proportions on people that we see in babies (big forehead, expressive eyes, and smaller bottom of face. ) It doesn"t take introspection because we pretty much all want the same answer. People have little or no introspective access to higher-order cognitive processes. People no more accurate about self than about others. Why they like a political candidate, failed to use contraception, sought out a therapist.
