Social endogamy most marriages take place within the same social class. Class: a large group of people who occupy a similar economic position in society. Class position in industrial societies is partly achieved not something assigned at birth. Hence, no consensus on how to divide up class (upper, middle, lower or more?) However there are clear differences between palm beach rich and trailer park poor. How others behave towards us: chambliss study. Both broke the law, but in somewhat different ways. Yet the poor were less able to hide their deviance. Faster labeling of lower income individuals as deviants can lead to: Chambliss"s paper is really about the transmission of class from generation to generation. Class boundaries are now way less rigid than in agrarian societies more movement. Yet a lot of stability most poor remain poor, most wealthy remain wealthy. How does this happen given the talent, ambition, intelligence, etc. roughly randomly distributed.
