Estar": to be estoy, est s, est , estamos, est n: one main use of estar is to tell where something or someone is located. ser and estar are never interchangeable, and that each verb is used in specific contexts. In addition to the preposition en (in; on; at), there are several other prepositions of location that are used with estar. In spanish, the present progressive is formed by using the present tense of the verb estar with a verb form called the present participle or gerund. When the stem of a an -er or -ir verb ends in a vowel, a spelling change of -i- to -y is required: spanish uses the present progressive less frequently than english. Therefore, many contexts in which to be + -ing is used in english do not correspond to the present progressive tense in. In spanish you should most often use the simple present tense.
