Today, middle-aged adults generally are in good physical and emotional. Middle-aged adults also tend to be in their top earning period of their lives one benefit of middle adulthood is accumulation of social and professional experience. Sensory changes generally center on slight loss in visual acuity, or sharpness of vision as lens of eye loses its flexibility, its ability to focus diminishes. Many middle-aged adults need reading glasses for presbyopia, a form of farsightedness. Bifocals aid eyes in adjusting to near and far objects. Hearing ability gradually diminishes although magnitude of change varies among individuals about 5% of population at 50 report substantial hearing loss in comparison to 27% at 75. Among women, one notable change of middle age is menopause, cessation of menstrual period. it occurs at about age 51 on average.
