Cold war: conflicting ideas or views that cause tension: can also lead to a hot war, there are many cold wars going on at any given time between states. Causes of the cold war: soviet union and the us were allies- what happened: competing ideas on what was next after wwii. It had begun in eastern europe which cause a fear in americans that soon its allies would be overtaken with communist government: arms race of nuclear weapons along with military expansion. Believed that the states were the most important actors . They had the most influence on the world"s stage . If a state is in trouble, they cannot always rely on other states. (self-help) Must maintain national security both to protect from other states and inside borders. Believes there are more actors than just states: nato and other types of alliances between countries.
