Dogs brought to the us shortly ater the civil war. Henry bergh outlawed all forms of animal ighing in new york state. Sill grew in popularity in early 20th century. *the american watchdog picture (usn blue hat on dog) were not looking for trouble but were ready for it. Modern dog fighing: mostly underground throughout much of the 20th century. Types of dog fighters: street level: newer style, occurs at street corners and informal places. Types of dog fighters: hobbyist level: more organized, may use rules. Several ights per year: mainly entertainment - some money may be made (not essenial purpose to make money) Beter standards of care, more atenion to breeding. Large number of animals owned: main income source breeding and ighing. Regularly kill animals that are not ighing well enough.
