Having more than a typical number of animals to the point which has overwhelmed the person"s ability to provide even the minimal standards of care. Failing to acknowledge deterioraing condiions of the animals and the environment. Failing to recognize any negaive efects that the situaion has on the hoarder"s own well-being, and that of any other members of the household. A person who has a lot of animals is not necessarily an animal hoarder. Animal hoarding is associated with very speciic psychological condiions. Proile of an animal hoarder: wide spectrum, men or women. Young or old: others living in the house. Professionals and white collar workers: most commonly involved animals are cats, followed by dogs. Muliple species in one house is possible: number of animals range from 10 to over 1,000, over 3,000 people afected every year. No it was not something she chose to do, she feels she got put into that situaion.
