Document Summary

We need to know what"s going on now to predict what will happen in the future. What they measure: t, td, p, wind and speed direction as a function of height. Twice per day at 00 z and at 12 z. Pop in the stratosphere (pressure decreases with height, so balloon expands until it pops) When launching weather balloon in january at 0 z and at 12 z, local time is 6 hours behind utc, so the times would be 6 pm and 6 am. When launching weather balloon in october at 0 z and at 12 z, local time is 5 hours behind utc, so the times would be 7 pm and 7 am. Need a good spatial distribution of sites. The more data, the better the forecasts will be. Sometimes fast winds need to be taken into account. Doesn"t go straight up, but assume that it does for class purposes. Collect data throughout the depth of the troposphere.
