Spread of invasive species: a species that is not native to a specific location can exploit the resources in the new environment, can compete with native species and even displace them, often have very fast growth rates. The kill of animals for sport, food, medicine or art at a rate that is higher than the population growth: millions of turtles consumed, elephant tusks, hundreds of orangutans killed annually for meat, climate change. Many fisheries are suffering from both overharvesting and habitat degradation as water becomes more polluted. The effect these changes have on species are not uniform. Some species increase while others decline: often has something to do with traits. Population all organisms of the same species found within a specific geographic region. Knowing more about an animals ecology can significantly help us understand why and if it is declining.
