Document Summary

The problem of evil - we can"t infer an infinitely wise, perfectly benevolent being due to all the suffering in life. If god is omnipotent, omniscient, omnibenevolent, etc. , then suffering shouldn"t exist: suffering does exist, therefore, god doesn"t exist. God is only finitely perfect, but far exceeds humankind in all ways. So, god can create some evil, maybe to avoid greater evil. The creation of the world is analogous to the designing of an apartment building. If the heat doesn"t work, the roof leaks, the plumbing is always broken, it might be the case that fixing one thing will cause the rest to be worse. But a really good architect would have designed a better building in the first place. Emotions are useful, but they are also the cause of great evil in society. Theist: there"s a great and immeasurable, because incomprehensible, difference between the human and divine mind.
