Document Summary

:the hindsight bias - the tendency to exaggerate, after learning an outcome, one"s ability to have foreseen how something turned out. Intuition leads to incorrect conclusions i. e. earth is flat, earth is the center of universe, heavy objects fall faster. People tend to create meaning out of randomness (can be called cognitive illusions) e. g. anthropomorphism: old man of the mountain, grilled cheese mary: logic. Reasoning conducted or assessed according to strict principles of validity. Logic can be illogical e. g. if she weighs the same as a duck, then she"s made out of wood. If she"s made out of wood she"s a witch: observation. Get it from the horse"s mouth e. g. fracking raised concerns about water contamination. Demonstrations of water lighting fire do more to sway opinions. Science uses all four methods of knowing, but values observation above all others. To be a scientist, you should be skeptical: neither reject nor accept any claim until you ask: what"s the evidence: authority.
