Chapter 9 types of crime (march 17) Behavior that is classified as a crime with no complaining witnesses. Inchoate crimes: crimes of solicitation, conspiracy, and attempt. This refers to people who have been harmed by actions that are not defined as criminal. It includes acts that cause harm and create victims who would complain if they had a legal basis in criminal law: examples: harmful behavior of corporations and industrialists; massive layoffs; hazardous conditions. Or it can be behavior that has been eliminated from criminal law that some believe should be criminal (like abortion). The reasoning behind making crimes without victims is based on 2 factors: Judeo-christian moral influence, otherwise known as a biblical factor: potential for harm. In illinois, there remains one law related to suicide, which is inducement to commit suicide. Illinois has one law against usury, called criminal usury. The bad samaritan: failing to render assistance when witnessing a crime or harm done to another.
