PSCH 343 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Japanese Language, Frontal Lobe, Motor Learning
Document Summary
Semantic: words meanings/ facts syntactic: how the words are combined to form sentences/ grammar. Orthographic (vision-based)/ written form phonological (sound-based) forms of language/ auditory. What evidence is cortex is organized to represent types of words (action words, objects, tools, animals, etc. Concluded that brain"s conceptual networks involve several neuronal structures in the left & right hemispheres. These conceptual networks are connected to the lexical networks in the left temporal lobe and may contain specialized information for persons, animals, or tools. Behavioral data showed that if there was a deficit, they were usually neighbors. Example: if the person couldn"t name people, then they might not be able to name animals but were most likely able to name tools. They were never really unable to name both tools and people. N400 is related to semantic information; n400 is modulated by several aspects of language, N400 is a response to a violation of semantics.
