-Social Penetration Theory- increase breadth and depth of communication as
intimacy and involvement increase & decrease breadth and depth of communication
as intimacy and involvement decrease
-Politenes Theory- relationships develop when +/- face needs are met, are
maintained when the rules of politeness are maintained and deteriorate when they
are violated or ignored.
