Document Summary
Decius 249 - 251: emperor, conservative and loves the pagans. Does not like the we don"t support the roman empire christians . Cyprian : bishop, he set a type of standard for killing. He was strict, but wanted to forgive those that lapsed. Little peace of the church 260 - 303 : christians are not persecuted during this time. Too much going on for the romans to pay attention to them. Substancia = ousia (essence) or hypostases (individual) : Christotokos (mother of christ) is not theotokos (mother of god) Homoousios : of the same essence, non scriptural. Church of antioch : first home of christianity. Church of alexandria : largest church, very educated. Asked them to surrender their scriptures and their roman citizenship status. Some christians ran from this and just accepted it. In 305 diocletian retires, persecution of christians was not regular, more in the east than the west (it was ineffective).
