Smaller vocab = use same words for multiple meanings. Means that there is a lot of homonymy. As it moves to expand pidgin, word inventory becomes larger. Typically, words come from the dominant language. In many situation, this is a european language. Typically, the lifespan of a pidgin is rather small. It could die out when the interactions for which it was used end. Ex: if trade between two groups is no longer happening. Ex: after the colonizer leave, substrate groups still use it for trade amongst still serves some purpose themselves. A language that developed from contact between speakers of different languages and that serves as the primary means of communication for a particular group of speakers. Creoles have some form of pidgin in their history; it"s no longer a pidgin when it becomes the native language of some group of people (nativization) Children hear the pidgin spoken by their parents, learn it, adapt it, and create more.
