Religion in arab america is a key identity marker. One of the first things an arab american does when meeting another. Arab american is try to figure out which religion they are. When immigrants came to america, they tended to settle to where their villages and common communities are. Homeland religious identity tends to travel to diaspora. You still want to practice the traditions of your faith regardless of if that exists in the us or not. Many lebanese and iraqi catholics converted to roman catholics because those were the churches near them and they were like meh, same thing . They don"t come to america with the idea of converting in mind, but many of them ended up converting. As much as these religions share, there is difference.
