In all societies, there are patterned ways in which legitimate power and authority are used to regulate behavior. There is some sort of permanent political regulation. Made up of nuclear families: small families that are related to each other and hunt/fish together. Are egalitarian: very little difference amongst members in terms of wealth, power, or prestige. There is no form of authority to enforce rules. However this is done by informal actions, such as making those that don"t follow the rules are ridiculed or gossiped about. 4 circles, named a b c d. each has 4 households (h). If a person is kicked out of a band, they can go into another band where they have relatives. Smaller segments are linked together to the upper units. Households form lineages, which forms villages, which form a tribe. The form of leadership is present at the village level. Each village has a village headman: this is the tribal leader.
